    Operation: June 2023.

     On Thursday July 8 , 2021, Major General Khaled Shuaib, Governor of Matrouh, Major General  Ihab Khader, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority For Potable Water and Sewage, and Major General Issam Jalal, Director of Water Department in the Armed Forces laid the foundation stone for the construction of the East Matrouh seawater desalination plant, with a production capacity of 130,000 cubic meters per day in two phases, at a total cost of one billion and 360 million pounds, in the Rumaila area, east of Marsa Matrouh. This came in the presence of Mr. Issa Abu Tamr, Major General Ashraf Ibrahim, Dr. Ibrahim Khaled, and engineer Ahmed Nasr.

     The seawater desalination plant will operate with a production capacity of 65,000 cubic meters per day as a first phase, and a capacity of 65,000 cubic meters per day as a second phase, bringing the production capacity to 130,000 cubic meters per day on an area of 60,000 square metres, as part of the state’s plan to establish seawater desalination plants to meet the citizens’ drinking water needs.
